Overview

The "Concrete Jungle" interactive installation, showcased on 19th November 2015 at the National Design Centre, served as a captivating exploration of light movement. Inspired by the celestial motions of the Earth rotating around the sun and its axis, this project delved into ancient natural movements and humanity&aposs historical methods of timekeeping.

Concept & Inspiration:

Drawing from the obsolete yet once primary method of tracking time—sundials—this project aimed to reflect on mankind's historical relationship with light. As smartphones replaced traditional timekeeping methods, the installation deliberately excluded artificial light, harking back to a pivotal stage in humanity's interaction with light and time.

Innovative Approach:

In a departure from conventional installations reliant on bright, flashy lights, this project embraced less traditional interaction methods. Despite constraints of a limited budget and a short preparation window, the endeavour sought to captivate audiences through unconventional means, sidestepping the typical reliance on artificial brightness.

Achievement & Display:

Despite challenges, the project was successfully realised within the constraints, making its debut at the prestigious National Design Centre. It represented an ode to humanity&aposs historical engagement with light, offering visitors a unique and contemplative experience amidst a world inundated with modern technology.
